Trails of the Mornington Peninsula (Ocean Trail):

Jim and Lucas’ Road Trip 2007:

To take the viewer to the location, to bring them into the experience, to let them really feel it, video offers an amazing chance to extend the visual world to another level.

Comfortable behind the lens, framing and focussing, but also directing, and project planning, I have enjoyed working on a range of projects.

Shooting Sony since I began, I relished the chance to produce DVDs which were an opportunity to transport the audience to another place entirely, communicating the beauty, the serenity and the appreciation I have for some of my favourite places on earth. These projects included extensive location scouting and shooting, endless hours cutting, audio production and of course colour correcting. The process however is not complete with the final cut; the DVD itself is a crucial vehicle and sets the tone for the video itself. Producing high quality, media rich menu systems was a joy, thanks goes to Adobe’s suite of software here; Premiere, AfterFX, Audition and Encore, what a team.

An opportunity to develop into script writing and directing, my short films were a foray into what felt like an entirely different medium. Another chance to communicate, with visual and verbal communication intertwined, not to mention the sound design.

I worked on post-production on two short films a friend of mine produced; lending my expertise in color correction and visual effects.

Shooting Sony since the day dot, I love my HDR HC1 for its HDV CMOS quality, its compact form and its flexibility, shooting to DV tape. Sony stands for colour, clarity and quality, I’m never disappointed by what I see streaming down the firewire.

Some bloopers from the studio…

ESCN.tv

This is a show that I anchor every week. Its produced for people in the Erosion and Sediment Control industry, and there’s a few thousand people around the world who find that important enough to watch. There’s some cool stuff actually; stories about stream bank restoration, how to deal with erosion problems on big construction sites, and how to handle …

April Fool’s Day Snow in Winnipeg

Well waking up to another 10 or so centimetres of snow certainly wasn’t the biggest shock of the year, but it still rated pretty high on the surprise scale. With most of the snow having melted away in the previous couple of weeks, this fresh fall meant it was back to some wintertime activities, and also that the mountain bike …

Learning Cross Country Skiing in Winnipeg, MB

Ever since I saw people skate skiing at Lake Mountain, Victoria (Australia) back in 2004, I wanted to learn this graceful and exciting sport. This winter seemed like the perfect opportunity, so I hit up a local sports shop during its fire sale, and set about learning the ropes, starting with classic and then moving to skate style. This is …

Ice Skating at The Forks, Winnipeg

I decided to head down to The Forks; a hive of activity most weekends, summer or winter, but especially this particular weekend, as the river trail had just been opened. With ice grooming machines tracking up and down on what was a flowing river just a few months ago, the trail currently travels 4km up the river, and will soon …

Cabin Toboggan Awesome Fun

This was the video that had to be made. A weekend at Falcon Lake with a bunch of friends, some pizza, some drinks and an awesome toboggan run in the backyard, that went from the deck, down past the boat dock and out onto the frozen lake. A true Manitoban winter sport, we had a blast sliding down forwards, backwards, …

My Day in Winnipeg

The other day I decided I’d make a little video give an idea of what my day living here is like, at this time of year, for the benefit of anyone interested, particular those of more temperate climates who don’t experience the -30C temperatures that we just enjoyed last week. The video gives a bit of a snapshot of what …
