I like to do lots of things, very well. I am a photographer, videographer, project manager, team leader, art director, graphic designer, retoucher, web developer, database developer, client manager, proof reader, copy writer, journalist, travel writer, teacher, interior and landscape designer.
I believe variety, knowledge and experience are fundamental for ingenuity and creativity. It is outside the box that the best things happen.
Design, as a means of visual communication, has been near to my heart for many years now. Starting work at a newspaper, I learned the ropes, starting with minor ad corrections and scanning countless thousands of car photos. From there things picked up, and I was quickly working on ad layouts, progressing through to directing the art and layout for the 7 local weekly publications, working on section and feature layouts, front cover designs and advertising. During this time, I was studying at university, getting a grounding in visual communication principles and theory, visual perception, colour theory, psychology and all the subtleties and nuances that make up the field.
Since the newspaper, I extended into corporate work, taking on a number of clients who were startups or companies going through rebranding. I also worked in a studio behind a print shop, developing visual material for a wide range of businesses, from restaurants and local shops through to large corporates. Subsequently working in a studio that focussed on boutique clients provided me with a chance to work more in magazine and book design, digital retouching and also corporate identities.
